Why Sunflowers & Rainbows?
People often ask me why I chose the name Sunflowers & Rainbows for my business, and I truly appreciate that curiosity! While the name may seem whimsical and sweet, it carries a deeper significance that reflects my approach to my work.
To me, sunflowers are remarkable plants. They are not only resilient but also play a vital role in revitalizing soil, removing toxins, and creating an environment for new growth. At the same time, they embody stunning beauty. This blend of strength, resilience, and elegance perfectly encapsulates my beliefs about labor, transition, and the human experience.
In times of change—whether during childbirth or gender transition—individuals demonstrate incredible strength. They navigate uncharted waters, transforming their lives and discovering new aspects of themselves. Much like sunflowers, they cultivate new "soil" for their futures while radiating their unique beauty into the world.
Transitions often bring both challenges and triumphs. There may be moments that feel difficult and bleak, but there are also profound instances of joy and liberation. This duality is beautifully mirrored in both sunflowers and rainbows.
Ultimately, Sunflowers & Rainbows represents the powerful synergy of resilience, growth, and beauty that I see in everyone I work with. It serves as a reminder of the goodness that can arise from change and transition, even in the toughest times.
Who is M Hardwick, the Doula & Childbirth Educator?
Hi! I’m a genderfluid/nonbinary full-spectrum doula based in the DFW area. My journey to becoming a doula wasn’t a straight path; it began after experiencing burnout from seven years in various ministry settings. I realized I needed a change that aligned with my skills and my vision for living authentically in the world.
After some reflection, I remembered my passion for birthwork, sparked back in college when a professor shared her own experiences as a doula. The way she spoke about advocating for and empowering her clients resonated deeply with me. Fast forward about ten years, and here I am, fulfilling that vocation!
Since I began my work as a doula, my passion for birth and other kinds of support has grown immensely with each client I meet, every book I read, and every class I take. I understand that every individual and family has unique needs and desires, and my approach adapts to reflect that. I believe that my role is to be there for you and your family in whatever way you need, ensuring that our work together centers around your identity and needs.
When choosing a doula, it’s crucial to find someone who truly connects with you, understands your journey, listens actively, and offers unwavering support. I strive to be that person for you, providing non-judgmental care tailored to your needs. Whether you seek someone to talk to and process your thoughts, a guide to help you advocate for yourself, or a source of encouragement during challenging moments in your journey, I am here for you.
Through person-centered care, I aim to build a relationship that affirms and supports you—a relationship you can trust. In times when you need support and information the most, I want to be by your side. When you may feel a lack of autonomy over your body, I will stand with you. In moments of confusion or pain, I will be there. I hope to be your advocate and source of strength when you need it most because I’m here to support YOU! I actively listen to your needs and desires, seeking to connect with you during this pivotal time in your life. I understand that these moments can be stressful, and my goal is to be a calming presence in your corner, helping to alleviate some of that stress.
I believe in providing you with all the information you need to make informed decisions that align with your values and aspirations. Your choices are deeply personal, and I’m here to equip you with the tools and knowledge to make the best decisions for you and your family. I am committed to ongoing learning and growth, ensuring you have everything necessary to feel confident in your choices.
Through support and information, I hope to empower you during our time together. There will be moments when you need someone to encourage you to trust yourself and your instincts, and I am ready to be that person for you.
I believe you know what’s best for your family, and I want to help you find the tools to feel confident in that knowledge while remaining true to yourself.
Who Am I Really?
I’m a white, fat, genderfluid/nonbinary, asexual person who uses they/them pronouns. I come from a middle-class background and had a semi-religious upbringing. While I experienced relative security in housing during my childhood and have generally been food secure, I’ve had at least some access to healthcare.
As a U.S. citizen and native English speaker, I navigate life without apparent disabilities, though I do live with anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I’m a survivor of complex trauma, abuse, and disordered eating, and I currently attend therapy to support my healing journey. I am in a monogamous relationship with my fiancé and queerplatonic partner.
I have a deep love for coffee and can often be found with a cup in hand—whether I’m at the hospital, at home, or on the go. My partner and I share our lives with our beloved pitbull, Serenity, who is spoiled to no end. I enjoy playing D&D with friends, embarking on adventures both inside and outside the metroplex, and indulging in house shows and dramas (my partner affectionately refers to me as a “drama sponge”). I cherish moments of cuddling with my family as much as possible.
